Acupuncture for Osteoarthritis // Relief in the colder months

Acupuncture is a great treatment to treat and manage the symptoms associated with Osteoarthritis (OA) such as Pain , Swelling and stiffness.  Acupuncture is recommend by the NHS nice guidelines for OA of the knees . Several systematic reviews of acupuncture for osteoarthritis of peripheral joints/knee and hip/knee alone have concluded that it is statistically superior to sham acupuncture and to usual physician care, and similar in benefit to some other active interventions such as exercise regimes (Kwon 2007; White 2007; Manheimer 2007, 2010).

With the colder damper weather OA can be aggravated for allot of people , when treating OA in my clinic i use a heat therapy from Chinese medicine called Moxa , Moxa warms and moves blood in the affected area to help with cold and stiff joints.

One of my Patients who came to see me (We will call her June for confidential purposes) Suffered from bad OA of the knees , with stiffness and pain especially when walking up and down stairs.  She had OA for many years before considering acupuncture as a treatment , After her first few sessions her pain was greatly reduced and after 6 sessions her pain and stiffness was very low level . Now i see June every few months to keep maintaining the treatment , her pain is still very low level and does not effect her in the same way. Many more of my Patients with OA have experienced similar improvement in there symptoms with acupuncture treatment.
