Acupuncture is an ancient medical technique which originates from the far east and dates back more the 2,500 years. It is part of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) which is still widely used as a primary health care system in china today, acupuncture treatment includes the insertion of hair thin and one use sterile needles into specific points known as acupuncture points. Acupuncture has a direct effect on the body and recent medical research has shown acupuncture stimulates a natural pain killing response amongst other effects.
Acupuncture can treat both acute and chronic issues, commonly over a course of treatment ranging between three to six sessions.
The NHS NICE guidelines recommend acupuncture for a variety of issues such as tension type headache and primary chronic pain conditions.
During an acupuncture session I will take a full medical history and use diagnostic methods to help inform my treatment . One use sterile needles and inserted into specific points corresponding to the areas of the body that are affected , some of these points are local in the area and others are away from the area of complaint. After that i will let you relax for 20 mins. We usually use between 5-7 needles in one session, the points we use will vary from session to session.
Many patient’s find the acupuncture deeply relaxing and feel calm and balanced after the session.
Acupuncture is safe and has minimal side effects when performed by a fully qualified practitioner.
